摘要

This aim of this research is to know multipel representation ability of material physical changes and chemical changes, and formal thinking ability of students grade 7th junior high school in Pontianak, and direction and strength relationship between multipel representation ability with formal thinking ability. Samples were selected by Stratified Sampling technique. The form of this research was quantitative descriptive and correlational. Formal thinking ability of students were measured by test Burney, whereas multipel representation ability of students were measured by test reasoning multiple-choices. Correlation analysis was tested by Spearman-Brown correlation statistics. The results of data analysis showed that multipel representation ability of students grade 7th junior high school in Pontianak in less and very less categories with percentage ability in level macroscopic, symbolic, microscopic respectively are 38.54%; 20.05%; 18.2%. Thingking ability of students grade 7th junior high school in Pontianak who have achieved a level of formal thinking only 1,5%. Relationship between multipel representation ability with formal thinking ability showed a positive and significant which has value of coefisien correlation in level macroscopic, symbolic, microscopic respectively are 0.244; 0.396; 0.393.
